Ammar Fest selected films screen near Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine

Selected films at Ammar Popular Fest based in Iran have been shown near Imam Hussein’s (AS) holy shrine in Iraqi city of Karbala.

A collection of films curated by Iran-based Ammar Popular Festival has been showcased in the vicinity of Imam Hussein’s (AS) holy shrine in Iraq.

The city of Karbala hosted the film screenings organized by a media center for al-Nojaba Islamic Resistance Movement, meeting a great reception from the local community and international pilgrims from Bahrain, Iran, Syria and Yemen, among others.

A number of Iranian docs and short films were also screened at the event, including ‘Apostate Iranians’ by Iran director Hamid Abdollahzadeh. The documentary features a true story related to one of the ringleaders of Takfiri Daesh terrorists.

The screenings were in conjunction with the birth anniversary of the 12th and last Muslim Imam, Imam Mahdi in middle of the eighth Islamic lunar month Sha'ban).

Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising led to an unfair battle that exerted influential effects on Islamic history. Imam Hussein (AS) and 72 of his loyal companions, including his family members, were martyred on Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram, in the battle of Karbala against the second Umayyad caliph, Yazid I, in 680 AD.

Ammar Popular Film Festival has an international section which goes against promotion of “individualism and extreme enjoyment without caring about the society's troubles and other human suppression,” the event’s official website noted.

The seventh Ammar Popular Film Festival kicked off in December, 2016.
